Does She Blow the Bucks on Blow?

Posted by Donna on June 16, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Once again, Terry and Linda Bollea, aka Mr. and Mrs. Hulk Hogan, are throwing some major verbal attacks at

.

.

one another.  Accusations flew in the most recent court hearings this week of Linda Bollea spending the vast majority of her $40,000 monthly temporary alimony payments on drugs.  In fact, two witnesses showed up and testified they’ve witnessed her snorting cocaine and taking a painkiller known as Roxycodon.  She also heard them testify to her expensive marijuana habit as well.

A judge has been doling out the cash as needed to both parties.  That has to sting.  To have to ask for permission to spend one’s own money must be a difficult process for Terry Bollea.  He’s said to be worth over $10 million, but he said in court that unless his family reeled in its spending habits, he’d be broke within a year.  The fact he’s been ordered to pay the $40k monthly payment on top of all of her expenses, including credit cards, trainers, housekeepers and car payments and maintenance surely is taking a toll.  To add insult to injury, she’s now claiming she’s living below the standard of living she’d grown accustomed to as Mrs. Hulk Hogan.  She’s petitioned the court for an increase in her monthly allowance, all the while, her husband’s legal team is arguing for the judge to reduce the payments.

Since his son, Nick, was a minor in 2007 when he was arrested for causing a serious brain injury to his once-friend during a car crash, the Bolleas’ have shouldered all of his legal fees.  Many believe this is what marked the beginning of the end of their 23 year marriage.

The judge also heard Bollea’s argument today that he’s unable to provide for his family since his wrestling career is all but over.  A recent back surgery only adds to the long list of health problems and injuries many wrestlers suffer with.  His hopes of playing an active role in the upcoming Wrestlemania seem to be fading.

In the meantime, the accusations are still flying, the name calling is still being traded and the divorce attorneys are working overtime to keep their respective clients quiet and not so much in the limelight.  What can they do, though?  Two entitled people who’ve lived charmed lives all these years won’t buckle easily and aren’t apt to take orders from anyone, whether it’s a judge or their own attorney.

New Study Shows Half of All Men Arrested Test Positive for Illegal Drugs

Posted by Donna on May 30, 2009 at 7:14 pm

A new study released this week revealed that one half of all males who are arrested test positive for some kind of illegal drug(s). Although this is alarming, it’s not really surprising since there have long been links established between crime and drug abuse. There were ten major U.S. cities involved in the study and 3,924 men tested. In some cities, such as Chicago, the numbers were near 90% and in some cases, multiple substances were found. Other statistics include:

Marijuana is the most common drug found, with the exception of Atlanta where cocaine was found most often.

Heroin was found most often in men from Chicago and reveals an increase of 9% over the past year for a total of 29% in this most recent study.

This only highlights arguments proponents of court enforced drug rehabilitation programs have said for years. Advocates say the opportunity exists for every judge in the country to order counseling and rehabilitation instead of incarceration. They say recidivism rates are dramatically lowered when one completes rehab programs and is often the only chance many have at entering any kind of treatment facilities.
Still, the costs for those who don’t complete rehab amount to wasted taxpayer dollars and further, taxpayers must then foot the bill for housing those who, as part of their sentences, must go to jail if they fail to complete treatment. Many say drug courts only delay jail time for those adamant about not stopping their drug use.
For now, it’s often left up to the judge who determines sentencing whether or not to send an offender to rehab. With such a close eye on how limited monies are spent, many judges feel obligated to choose jail over rehab. Today’s release of these new statistics might change that, though. Even when one who is ordered into rehab doesn’t complete treatment, there remain six who do complete treatment and avoid jail time altogether.
One suggestion includes nationwide admissions guidelines with clear guidance on who is and isn’t eligible (such as no arrests for major drug trafficking). For more information on the cities’ individual statistics, see this USA Today report.

Rewarding Bad Behavior

Posted by Donna on March 12, 2009 at 11:49 am

Why is Forbes Magazine rewarding a major drug trafficker and murderer with inclusion on its world’s richest people list?  There have been some bizarre headlines in today’s news, but this one takes the cake.

Joaquin Guzman

In a post a few days ago, we discussed the two major drug cartels that have combined forces and are responsible for thousands of beheadings and other murders along the U.S./Mexican border.  Guess what?  Joaquin Guzman is the leader of one of those cartels, the Sinaloa, and he’s worth over a billion dollars.  A billion dollars!   Even worse is the condescending comment made from a senior editor with Forbes.  Luisa Kroll told Reuters that the murderer and drug trafficker “isn’t available for interviews, but his financial situation is doing quite well”.  I guess so.  All the lives that are destroyed, whether by murders by his own hand or through deaths due to drug addiction, surely are worth something.

When Guzman escaped a Mexican prison in the early 1990s, it set into motion countless murders throughout Mexico as the two drug cartels struggled (successfully) to take control of the country.  And for Forbes magazine to “showcase” this man is beyond comprehension.  In his profile, they have his industry listed as “shipping” and a net worth of one billion dollars…with a star next to the dollar figure!  Naturally, they don’t have any information available for his marital status or education.  He probably doesn’t even know if there’s a Mrs. somewhere.  They do, however, mention he’s a wanted man and that he’s a tunnel expert.  Maybe that’s where they found him to ask about his net worth.

It’s estimated nearly $40 billion dollars in cocaine comes into this country each year, courtesy of Mexican drug cartels.  And all of that cocaine routes its way to cities and towns and wreaks untold havoc to families who watch a loved one struggle with addiction.

This was a bad call for Forbes and one that shouldn’t be forgotten by its subscribers.  You can read all about this “Forbes worthy” billionaire here.  And if you happen to run into this wealthy man, there’s a $5 million dollar reward if you can capture him.  Just don’t send him to Forbes headquarters - they’ll probably want to do a photo shoot.

Mischief in Hollywood

Anybody hooked on The Bad Girls Club on the Oxygen network? I am always glued to the TV when this show is on. For those of you who’ve missed it, this is a group of self-proclaimed bad girls who submit videos outlining their justifications for being a bad girl. Some of these past bad girls have me feeling pretty confident about holding my own should I ever run into one of them in a dark alley, but then, there those who stir memories of how I felt when a neighborhood girl who was three years older than me threatened to kick my knee caps into the ground. If you kept up with Season 2, then the name Tanisha Thomas should be as familiar to you as your own mother’s name. Make no mistake; this New York fireball is as tough as they come. Ever seen someone pop off? You’ve not lived a full life until you see Tornado Tanisha barrel through the house. Now, it seems her fiery personality and quick temper is going to cost some major bucks. In the two-part season finale, Tanisha, in classic form, pops off in a bar. A by-stander catches one of her solid punches and Tanisha finds herself with new roommates, courtesy of the City of Los Angeles.

Now it seems the poor guy is suing not only the Oxygen Network, but Tanisha as well. I don’t know who he is, but the operative word in that statement is “he”. That’s right….she whupped some poor

Tanisha

testosterone driven member of the opposite sex. It’s important to mention that the criminal charges were dropped, which is just as well, because the civil case is going to be far more entertaining. Part of this entertainment will be provided by Plaintiff’s Exhibit 1: footage of the entire unpleasant incident, which just happened to have already been viewed by no telling how many folks who are just as hooked as I am on this show.

This definitely claims first place in my list of entertaining courtroom shenanigans. Finally! I can now demote to second place Phil Spector’s hokey coifs he so proudly paraded during his trial. If you want to get caught up, you can see the video here .

Another story that has my attention is the arrest of MacKenzie Phillips. She played Julie Cooper on One Day at a Time. She’s openly admitted to having been a drug addict from the time she was twelve years old and even admitting that she shot up heroin with her father at the age of eighteen. Can you imagine being fired at the age of sixteen from a top rated comedy series? Worse still, she was fired for substance abuse. Sheesh! She says she’s been clean since 1992. That might have been true up until yesterday when she was arrested at LAX for possession of cocaine and heroin. It’s no secret that she’s been in and out of rehab centers at least six documented times. This arrest is sure a major setback for a woman, who when clean, is an activist of women’s rights and an advocate of the need for funding of mental health programs. It’s unlikely she’ll do any major jail time, but will instead be ordered into rehab again. When asked if she had medical problems during processing, she replied that she was healthy except for her drug problem. Despite all of the immature stunts young Hollywood actors commit, this was one that everyone was hoping had come full circle with her demons and would serve as proof that recovery and a Hollywood address could co-exist.
