She Was This Close…

They say we continue to get thumps on the head from heaven until we finally get it.  I’ve had my share of thumps, but Amy Fisher surely has one massive migraine from hers.  She served time in prison for attempting to murder her lover’s wife in 1992 when was only seventeen.  She was convicted of reckless assault but could’ve been convicted on a laundry list of crimes, had the district attorney chosen to pursue them.  The now thirty-four year old woman has just announced she’s going on a national stripping

spree.  She has also put up a porn site starring herself and claims to be an exhibitionist.  I’m thinking she’s done quite enough exhibiting in her life.  I’m certain Mary Jo Buttafuoco would agree too.  She’s the ex-wife of Joey Buttafuoco and the one who’s permanently disfigured as a result of the affair her husband had with the sixteen year old high school student.  Joey Buttafuoco subsequently served four months in jail for statutory rape for this affair.  On a side note, a man whom she’d been sexually involved with during that time sold a tape that showed the two of them in rather compromising positions - literally.  She’d had a colorful life full of less than perfect choices before she was even eighteen.

Although she faced up to 55 years in prison, she entered a plea agreement her lawyer negotiated with the district attorney.  Part of that agreement included her testimony against Joey Buttafuoco when the time came.  It would eventually be moot since he was never charged with any crimes related to the shooting.

After Fisher was released from prison (after serving seven years), she became an award winning columnist and was a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.  She published a book, “If I Knew Then” in 2004 and was seemingly doing well.  She married and had two children.  The only controversy for a long time was the reported $80,000 in profits she received for selling the movie rights to her story.

Now it seems she’s setting herself up once again to dance in a spotlight that’s not going to be so kind.  Aside from two young children she’ll have to face at some point when they begin asking questions regarding her days as the Long Island Lolita, this most recent decision will most likely come back to bite her as well.  The fact is, she’s received some impressive accolades from those in journalism circles.  It’s a shame she’s chosen this latest scheme after she was so close to finally coming full circle.
